How can slip-and-fall accidents happen in stores?

On Behalf of | Jul 28, 2023 | Personal Injury

As you shop in a store, you may focus on getting the necessary grocery items you need and leaving. When you find yourself dealing with an unexpected but serious injury, you could feel overwhelmed.

Learning more about slip-and-fall accidents and how they can happen is key when dealing with this problem.

Dripping and spilled liquid

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, broken glasses and jars filled with liquid on a store’s floor can leave you at risk of slipping. The employees of the store should put up a sign or clean up the mess whenever they see it.

If they do not do that, then you or anyone else may step into a clear puddle without realizing it.  Wet cleaners that workers accidentally leave without wiping up may make the floor slippery as well.

Broken or missing railings

When you use the stairs in a building, the railings need to be safe to hold the pressure of a person pressing down on them. This means they cannot crumble or break and send you falling to the ground.

When a store fails to install the correct railings or any kind of protection at all for a set of stairs, it can lead to a fall.

Clutter

As you walk around, the floors need to be clear of all items that could trip a person. This may include cords that stick out or bunched-up rugs.

Noticing the ways that slip-and-fall accidents can happen in a store is great when you want to understand what to do next after an injury.
